Brief Introduction of Zhaoyuan Economic Development Zone
Zhaoyuan Economic Development Zone was approved by Shandong People¨s Government in December, 1992. Located to the east of Zhaoyuan City-＾China¨s Gold Capital￣, the Development Zone is directly connected with the city proper. After 3 times¨ of expansion and adjustment, the Development Zone has been striving for continuous improvement as an important part of being successful. The Development Zone covers an area of 23 Km2, with a population of 27 thousand and 21 villages and a residential committee under its jurisdiction.
The Development Zone has formed a network of transportation. It is in the center of three international ports-Qingdao Port, Yantai Port and Longkou Port. There are expressways to the three ports and the two international airports-Qingdao Airport and Yantai Airport.
At the beginning of its development, the Development Zone put emphasis on infrastructure and investment promotion. The City¨s Planning Institution of Tongji University was entrusted to design and program the construction in order to attract investment and improve investment conditions. On the one hand, infrastructure is being improved. The emphasis is put on transportation, water supply, electricity supply, communication, drainage, steam heating and broad width bands, which will soon operate well in different areas of the Development Zone. The Development Zone has a highway network composed of 6 north-to-south highways and 9 east-to-west highways, with a totaling mileage of more than 50 km. in length. There are three 35-KV power supply and transformer substations and a water plant with a daily capacity of 3 tons. On the other hand, improvements have been made on the layout, afforestation and hygienic management of enterprises in the Zone. A number of important buildings include the Broadcasting and Television Information Center, the Communication Building, High Middle School, the Administrative Approval Center, the Stadium Center, the Gold Square, etc has promoted the infrastructure and strengthened the city¨s service function. The Phoenix Park, Lihu Recreational Park and the greenbelts along the roadside provides pleasant residential environment.
From a long-term point of view, the Development Zone adopts half-closed management system, reducing outside meddling and avoiding unauthorized charges. In order to perfect the investment and service system, the Development Zone has set up a Foreign Investment Service Center. It provides a complete set of service from project proposal, approval and register to land using, programming, building and well-equipped infrastructure.
No pains, no gains. After 9 years¨ of development, the Development Zone has formed an industrial park, covering an area of 20 sq. km. By the end of the year 2002, the Development Zone had introduced more than 100 projects. The approved total capital has exceeded RMB 4 billion yuan. Among the 100 projects, 8 projects have a total investment of over RMB 100 million yuan, and more than 30 over RMB 10 million yuan. The 27 foreign-funded projects have utilized actual investment of US$ 190 million, which is mainly from Japan Korea, America, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. Investment is used in such 7 dominant industries as gold, jewelry, electronics, light industry, machinery, plastics and clothes.
After many years¨ of extensive economic growth, the infrastructure has been greatly improved, and a complete set of service system has been set up, which has facilitated a tendency of continuous and greater investment. The construction of the Economic Industrial Park, Rubber and Tyre Industrial Park, High-tech Industrial Park and Privately-Owned Enterprises Park have begun to take shape, bringing about more investment chances and creating better investment conditions. Zhaoyuan Economic Development Zone is becoming the investment focus from both home and abroad.
